Here are some gardening jobs to do with the kids this month:-
• Sow lettuce and radish outdoors at intervals for a continuous crop;
• Sow chard outdoors;
• Sow French beans and pumpkins outdoors;
• Thin out seedlings sown outdoors;
• Plant out seedlings from earlier sowings if large enough;
• Protect planted potatoes by earthing up if frost threatens;
• Sow peas around the bottom of supporting canes;
• Sow sweetcorn in deep pots, so the young plants are ready to transplant into the garden in June;
• Start sowing dwarf and climbing French beans, as well as runner beans, directly outdoors in warm weather;
• Pick rhubarb stems as they develop, and water plants with liquid feed.
